Elephants in the Room
In collaboration with Janina Schütz.
Painted ceramics, wooden table and display cabinets, dimensions variable
Serving as a commentary on a project held at the Jewish Museum Berlin, involving artists from diverse backgrounds, including recent refugees. Throughout the yearlong weekly sessions, the artists—hailing from Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan, Israel, Germany, Spain, and France—never explicitly discussed their backgrounds, nor acknowledged the unique opportunity provided by the Jewish Museum for their meetings and exhibition space. However, this awareness lingered as an unspoken 'elephant in the room.' The group exhibition featured very different works and “Elephants in the room” showing numerous ceramic elephants, combining domestic and museum display cases relate to this idea. Ultimately, the presented works cannot be viewed separately from this implicit context and the individual biographies of each artist—a complexity that 'Elephants in the Room' playfully alludes to."
